WISE EYES over Jack County

Jack County Child Abduction / Crime Watch Plan

The purpose of the WISE EYES program is to have in place a program that augments Jack County public safety officials with available volunteer manpower in the case of child abduction. Although the program is designed with child abductions in mind, it is also used for all crimes that are of a serious nature where suspects are being sought. In addition, the program is used to keep citizens informed of various public safety issues.

Jack County covers a geographical area of 924 square miles. Most of these square miles consist of unincorporated areas and towns that do not have full time city police services. The maximum number of county deputies on duty will never be more than four. Even with assistance from other agencies, there would be an inadequate amount of public safety personnel available. The potential for having a successful outcome in child abduction would be very low, due to the enormous amount of landmass that would have to be covered. History indicates that in child abductions the first 3 hours are critical in saving the child's life.

The Jack County Sheriff Department Crime Prevention Division is identifying all types of local companies that have radio dispatch or instant communications with their personnel. By identifying, training, and coordinating these efforts, we hope to be able to email or fax information on suspects and/or suspect vehicle information to these companies who will in turn broadcast it to their personnel, who travel all roads in Jack County and surrounding areas on a daily basis. We hope to increase the number of people looking for the child from four to over 400. We believe that this will greatly enhance the possibility of saving the life of an abducted child. To stay in practice for this event that we hope never happens, we utilize the program on other crimes and public safety issues such as scams, burglary information, etc. By working closely with our citizens, we hope to build a reputation that Jack County is the wrong place to commit a crime. If the criminals know that every rock truck driver, oilfield pumper, utility worker, pilot, or any Jack County citizen is a potential witness, they will leave our homes and property alone. Remember, "EVIL DOES GOOD, WHEN GOOD DOES NOTHING!" Become active today in reporting suspicious vehicles and persons.

The Sheriff's Department would like to invite you to participate in this vital program. All that is required of you is an email address and/or fax number to receive alerts from the Sheriff's Department, which you would forward to your employees. Initial training for you and your employees is also available. For more information or to become involved in the WISE EYES program, contact the Jack County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Officer at 940-567-2161  or email at wiseeyes at jackcountylec.com.

Sincerely
JD Ezzell
